the first school to be equipped with the Structural-X structural monitoring system

The Institute “A-Ruiz” of Augusta in the province of Syracuse, is the first school to be equipped with the Structural-X structural monitoring system. This system has a wide range of uses: from the monitoring of historic and monumental buildings, to the monitoring of public and industrial buildings, to the study and continuous monitoring of foundations, bridges, dams and tunnels. The system can also be used for mechanical laboratory tests and for the training of users and students. Structural-X is a transportable and modular system for static and dynamic monitoring of civil or mechanical structures made by I.R.S, Gold Alliance Member of National Instruments.

The acquisition of this precious piece of equipment by the “Ruiz” was possible thanks to PON funding (for equipment and work school alternation) and will lead to uses that will go beyond the specific functions provided at the time of purchase. For example, collaborations have already been envisaged with universities and research institutes for applications in the reference area. In fact, there is no shortage of opportunities to use top-level structural monitoring systems such as the one purchased in an area rich in culture and monuments such as the provinces of Syracuse, Ragusa and Catania. A group of young people, coordinated by Prof. Santacroce, has already rolled up their sleeves and in recent months has begun to work to start and define measurement and monitoring campaigns.
